Business Center ONE
Business Center ONE is located on the 4th floor of the Solmar Avenida Center in Ponta Delgada, São Miguel Island. It’s an integral part of a mixed-use building, born from a preliminary design competition carried out in 1973, in which the population itself chose the winning project.
Siting in Avenida Inf. D. Henrique, the waterfront of the Azorean capital, the commercial block enjoys a privileged location, an urban center with a seafront, a few meters from “Portas do Mar” with its marina and numerous activities associated. The commercial center itself brings together different audiences, given the variety of services and commerce it offers.
The new program created for a vacant floor, explores the potential of more flexible, autonomous and informal work habits to create a space for professionals from the most diverse professional areas and countries, to work, collaborate, and get in touch. The work environment becomes more transitory and adaptable to establish valuable and contemporary relationships. The island’s territory and materiality are the main inspiration for the project, in a composition that articulates the most representative elements of the region in relation with the program. Thus, the project evokes the sea, the volcanic rocks, the vegetation, the contrasts of light and shadow, it’s matter and colors, to the created spaces of this enterprise. The project, then, reaffirms this character of openness to the varied histories and contexts that the Azores archipelago allows.
