LA BALERA
The atelier has been commissioned to create the interiors for a restaurant in Piacenza, inspired by the old Italian Osterie and Balere. While the first was a gathering place for the male community, where wine and appetizers where served, the “Balera” is a popular festive space or even just a dance floor for playing music and dancing in pairs.
The client’s goal was to create a timeless space with the “flavour” of old times within a tight budget. To answer the brief, Mezzo Atelier has conducted a research of second hand materials and furniture to create the Osteria della Balera’s atmosphere and bespoke furniture. Sitting in a restored ex-military property, the restaurant divides in three main spaces: the main entrance with bar and the main dining room, both in the restored existing building; and a new volume in steel and glass, where an informal dining space is located.
