Massa Mãe
Mezzo Atelier was commissioned to design the interior of a 60sq bakery shop in the city center of Ponta Delgada, in São Miguel’s Island.
The challenge was to create an inviting and warm atmosphere on an extremely low budget, while reorganizing the space of an old restaurant and turning it into two different areas: the production at the back, and the sales at the front, connected to the street.
The two spaces were left visually linked with one another through a wooden shelving unit used to display products for sale. The use of second-hand pieces of furniture allowed to save costs and imprinted a timeless feeling to the space. Personality and character were added with the use of simple and honest materials such as square white tiles, local cryptomeria wood for the furnishings and a strong color feature.
