Eco Via do Norte

São Miguel, Azores

Ecovia is a project for territorial intervention, which establishes connection points on a path defined on the coastline of Capelas, São Vicente Ferreira and Fenais da Luz, in the north of the island of São Miguel, in the Azores archipelago. The project was initially driven by the Ponta Delgada City Council, through the “Orçamento Participativo” initiative and the collaboration of a group of island citizens.

The definition of this path reinforces the potential of an occupation of the territory by pedestrians and cyclists, through the introduction of urban furniture and signalization, with common language and materialities. The intervention ranges from signaling points and mapping totems to public furniture, landscape design and new public spaces.

The goal was to qualify the route and bring light to the need for conservation and protection of the territory, biodiversity and endogenous resources of this areas.
