Ponta Garça Residences
The project is situated on the southern coast of the island of São Miguel, in a residential neighborhood of the small town of Ponta Garça. The plot sits on a street corner, on a higher level and presented a slope descending from north to south. The building’s L-shape configuration was determined by the plot’s regulation, allowing for an inner courtyard to add green areas to the common areas. The floor plan has been thoughtfully arranged to incorporate a single staircase and elevator at the junction of the two structures, maximizing both natural light and ventilation for the apartments.
The sensitive adaptation to the slope ensures its integration into the surrounding area, creating a pleasant environment with the incorporation of small green areas and offering breathtaking sea views from the balconies. The building contains shared areas such as entrance hall, a co-working area, and a roof terrace with an infinity pool, in addition to 21 studio apartments.
The facade aesthetic was achieved through the use of natural, locally sourced materials. The lower section showcases the traditional paired basalt stone which harmoniously aligns with the exterior walls of the plot. This is contrasted by upper floors finished with light wooden panels, creating a warm ambience and enabling residents to regulate the level of sunlight in the interior as well as the amount of privacy on their balconies.
